
Federal Tax Credits for
Residential Heat Pump Equipment
The Energy Policy
Act of 2005 as passed by Congress makes provision for certain tax credits to be
applied against qualifying Geothermal Heat Pump Units.
The Energy Policy
Act stipulates certain conditions to qualify for this tax credit:
1.
The
units must be placed in service between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007.
2.
The
units must have a desuperheater or integrated water heating.
3.
Qualifying
units must meet certain minimum energy efficiency standards as specified:

An
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 14.1 in the cooling mode and a Coefficient of
Performance (COP) of 3.3 in the heating mode when installed in a closed loop
system (GLHP) as defined by ARI/ISO 13256-1.
·
An
EER of 16.2 in the cooling mode and a COP of 3.6 in the heating mode when
installed in an open loop application (GWHP) as defined by ARI/ISO 13256-1.
